Gallery - Schoolhouse Compound
The Schoolhouse Compound.
The main structure on the property when purchased in 2014 began as an 1820’s Shady Dale schoolhouse — moved here in the 1940s, reimagined in 2015. Board by board and with the old standard five V agri roofing panels seen on all old barns out here, reused as siding, it maintained the same footprint after all these years and so it still sits. What you see is what was already here.
To expand the livable space, the schoolhouse was augmented with the idea that old 18 wheeler trailers could make for a nice living alternative that could support as a swing space - it could house overnighters, offer an observation deck and become a bandstand for some really fun parties. And, it continues to grow. The result is what we have called The Schoolhouse Compound and it is the foundation for all gatherings.
The foundation for most all Ruffwood gatherings.
